Creating Your Bio
An Instagram bio is a description of you and your business that sits at the top of your Instagram profile. A lot of times people aren't sure what to put here so they leave it empty or fill it with personal information that may not even relate to their business and what they have to offer people. Your bio section is very short and can only contain 150 characters, so you want to be very specific and concise in sharing who you are, what you do and who you serve in as few words as possible. Below I break down each part of your bio/profile to help you create the best bio possible to stand out online!

BUSINESS ACCOUNT
First and foremost, before you start editing your bio and personal info on Instagram, you'll wnat to be sure you have changed your profile from a personal account to a business account. Having a business account profile will allow you access analytics on your posts and stories, additional call-to-actions and buttons you can put on your profile, the ability to schedule posts ahead of time and boost posts as well. You definitely want a business profile to have access to all of these exclusive features.
YOUR NAME
It's important to include your name in your Instagram Bio (especially if your name is not part of your username/handle) because when people search for you, you want to pop up! If they can't find you by searching your name, they may not be able to find you on Instagram. The name field is searchable so be sure to put your name and feel free to add keywords here too like "Mandi | Beauty | Haircare" etc. if you want to pop up when people search for those topics.
PROFILE PHOTO
Be sure that your IG profile photo is a clear and recognizable photo of you. This will help followers recognize you and know that they are on your page and not somebody else's.

INSTAGRAM BIO
Underneath the name section is your Instagram bio. This is where you have 150 characters to tell people what you're all about, what you offer and why people should follow you. You are very limited on space for what you can write in your bio so make sure whatever you come up with is short, clear & to the point. An example of an Instagram bio that you might consider using for your Monat business might be something like:
Hair expert here to help you with tips,
tricks + products to get your best hair possible!
Free hair consult link in bio ↓↓↓
(And then below this would be your link in bio which I talk about next.)

or

Beauty guru here to help women feel
confident + age backwards! Take my free
hair + skin consult | link in bio ↓↓↓
(And then below this would be your link in bio which I talk about next.)

These are just a couple of easy examples - feel free to use them or create your own. You can also look at other profiles that you love and are drawn to on Instagram for bio inspo and to get ideas that you might want to use or recreate for yours!

LINK IN BIO
This is the only spot in your bio where you'll be able to add a link. This link is directly below your bio section. While most people assume they should add their Monat website or Monat hair quiz here, I highly advise not to. Your goal is to get people to reach out to you - not to send them to your website on their own only to have them see the prices and close out of it without you ever being able to educate them on our VIP discounts, sales, how long the products last, etc. I definitely recommend creating a linktree where you can add multiple links in one place.
BUSINESS CATEGORY
Instagram Categories will display in your bio by default, This allows Instagram users to get a better idea on what you have to offer. If you don't want to select a category for your Instagram, you can choose to hide the Instagram category on your profile too. I always lean towards selecting a category (Beauty, Entrepreneur, etc.) because it also helps the algorithm to better understand what your page is all about and it can better recommend your IG photos & reels to people who are more likely to be interested in what you have to offer.
